WebAR
Zappar WebAR is the web version of our native Zappar App, allowing users to view experiences built with Zapworks using their browser. When used alongside our QR code and deep link triggers, the WebAR platform is a great way of ensuring your end-users are able to access your content with as little friction as possible.
WebAR is also used as a distribution platform when developing with Mattercraft, Designer and the Universal AR SDKs. When using one of these tools, you are building a website and integrating Zappar's AR technology into it. You can then either host this site on the Zapworks servers, or self-host it.
Due to the technical limitations of current browsers and their limited access to device resources, the WebAR platform works best for light AR experiences or those that have been heavily optimized.
When launching a Zapworks Designer or Zapworks Studio experience in the mobile browser (WebAR), it is essential to have a splash screen. The splash screen requires a ‘user-initiated event’ in order to:
- To request permission to access device motion data
- To request permission to access the camera (on some platforms)
- To play audio
Non-commercial Interstitial
Users publishing Zapworks campaigns either on a 14 day trial or on the non-commercial Developer plan will see a non-commercial interstitial screen load on their projects before the following WebAR Distributions. This visual contains a short loading animation on an inactive button, which when completed becomes active and allows the user to continue through to enjoy the immersive experience.
Removing the interstitial screen is simple and a feature of our commercial plans (Pro and Enterprise). If you are looking to remove the non-commercial interstitial screen, log in to your Zapworks account and head to the upgrade page to buy a Pro plan.
If you are interested in our Enterprise plan, you can request a call with a member of our sales team.
Zappar Branded WebAR Distribution
The standard Zappar branded WebAR Distribution method is available to all users free of charge by default through their workspace.
As you can see, it has minimal branding and does not support any customizations. The Zappar branded WebAR Distribution method is perfect for many use cases, but is not appropriate for some customers’ projects.
Lite Branded WebAR Distribution
The Lite branded WebAR Distribution method is only available on Pro and Enterprise plans. To gain access to this feature, you can upgrade your Zapworks subscription here.
Lite branded WebAR Distribution has a neutral white and black branding by default, and allows customization of the logo and title of the text. In the example below, we have uploaded a generic logo, and included ‘Company name’ as the title.
Configuring your Lite Branded WebAR Distribution
In order to launch your project via the Lite branded WebAR Distribution method, you first need to create and open a Zapworks Studio or Designer project on my.zap.works. Once created and opened, follow the steps below.
The Lite branded WebAR Distribution uses our standard privacy policy. If you require a custom privacy policy, check out our custom WebAR sites below.
1) On the project overview page (on the right) you will see the option to update the Project icon and title.
We recommend using a JPEG image when uploading your icon.
2) Once you have updated the Project icon and title, you should set the project trigger destination to Zappar Lite branded.
Your project icon and title will store in your cached data and may not reflect any updates you make. If you've launched the experience before making changes to the icon / project name, you might need to clear your mobile browser's cached data to see the changes.
Setting your Default WebAR Distribution
This customization is only available for Pro and Enterprise plans. To gain access to this feature, you can upgrade your Zapworks subscription here.
You can also set a WebAR distribution method as default, meaning all future triggers added to both new and existing projects will automatically launch into the selected WebAR distribution method without needing to change their configuration manually.
To do this, select Distribution hub on the left-hand navigation of your workspace, hover over your selected distribution method, and click 'Make default'.
Enhanced WebAR Distribution
The Enhanced WebAR Distribution is only available to users on an Enterprise plan.
In addition to the Lite Branded WebAR Distribution, Zappar also offers customers the option of full customization of their WebAR distribution. If you have purchased an Enhanced WebAR Distribution, these will also appear in your workspace's WebAR distribution methods, found in the Distribution Hub.
Enhanced WebAR Distributions provide a fully branded splash page, with a custom interface and domain. This distribution method also provides access to integrated analytics, a dedicated Cloudfront distribution, and early access to beta features. You can see some examples of the Enhanced WebAR Distribution below.
The Enhanced WebAR Distribution is available as an add on to your Zapworks subscription. Prices start at £5250 per project per year.
To learn more about Enhanced WebAR Distributions and their features, you can request a call with a member of our sales team. Alternatively, you may send a request from the Distribution hub on your workspace.
